Did you make as much music last year as you hoped?
If you’re like most people, the answer is a big fat no. And not because you didn’t WANT to make a lot of music – it just didn’t happen.
I am of the belief that the biggest thing holding back our music-making is simply good old fashion procrastination.
And today I’ve got 4 tips for you to help you end procrastination once and for all and actually make MORE music in 2020 than you did last year.
Are you ready to make this your best year of music-making ever?!
Let’s dive in!
I am really determined t get my music out this year. Just before I listened to yur vlog, I signed up to DistroKid and I am planning on releasing three songs by mid febriary, which are almost ready.
This is thanks in main to yur Recording Revolution and adviise from ‘Creative Sauce’.
Hello fellow aspiring producer! Two questions. One, how I have investigated DistroKid and am wondering how you like it. Two, what is you artist name?
Thanks Graham, mainly for putting it all into perspective. i really appreciate your mind set and advise and how you put it all together verbally is done in a such a way that we can understand is remarkable to say the least. I will take heed of what you say although my downfall is getting the low end right especially with bass guitar to make it sit in the mix as even with fresh ears it never sounds fulfilled to me!
I know certain tricks etc but it still remains tricky.
My small room is far from ideal but since purchasing Sonarworks I know I have a good listening area to work with.
Many thanks for all you have done, Phil
Thank you for the video and the 2020 challenge! Do you have a video that explains all the nuances and definitions of the musical process? As a beginner I often get confused about some of the info out there…mixing, demos, stems, etc.(Music production for Dummies?) Also, I have Cubase, but I find it so difficult to use as a beginner in all of this ‘world of music production’. I don’t want to buy a new product if I don’t have to but I find it is stopping me from even getting in front of the microphone for even basic recordings of any instrument.
Thanks so much for your reply.
finished 2.4 tracks per week
Thanks for the tips! Keep up the great content. Yes, make more music instead of watching videos, that is the advice to follow.
You hit the nail. On your note, I’ll begin by breaking the music release process into manageable, scheduled steps, one song at a time.I’ve been overwhelmed by the big picture with over 50 originals in queue. Whew! Thanks!
Graham,
I’m a professional Fine Artist and an amateur musician (which is why I get your e-mails) and the parallels between the two professions are remarkable and very useful. Thanks for both and all the best for 20/20. Now, gotta back to work!
I did make quite a bit of music last year. I agree, procrastination is the enemy. It comes in many forms. Perfection is one of its faces. Not having the right equipment or instruments to make a track is another (some people have recorded their entire song on the iPhone). Any excuse will do.
How about a challenge in 2020? Something like one track a week or month, or even one track
Thanks,the four tips are excellent.
I really like tip 2 which seems to make the whole process easier for me. And more it enables me to focus on various activities in various weeks. It sounds really good and doable. Also it could take away a frequent despair which makes me procrastinate: needing to do so many various things in order to finish a song. Thank you very much for valuable advice again.
Graham that was such a great video! Thanks for the encouragement and ideas. I will be implementing them for sure. 😄👍
Very good video. I haven’t heard a bad advice from you.
Thanks for kicking my tail Graham. I laughed aloud when you said quit watching videos.
My original goal for 2020 was to put out one song a month, but I think I will just release a 5 song EP. I love all of the suggestions, I will be putting them to good use.
Many thanks Graham for your clarity. You delivered a wonderful motivating and organizing message!
I’m setting down my plan, the steps and making the commitment to finish my tracks [with the help of your production lessons] so I can go forward and make some new material. Now!

Happy New Year Graham.
Great advice at the start of 2020. I needed this as I’m spending more time watching other people doing tutorials, keyboard/software demos ect which are absorbing I know but I’m not developing my own music so thanks.
Kind regards
Reg
Wise wise wise. Thank you for this.
Love your work,
Kenneth
