You’re song isn’t ready to be released until it passes the radio mix test. No matter how good it sounds sonically, no matter how much you’ve referenced it to other mixes, no matter how many revisions and tweaks you’ve made, unless it you’ve walked through this process systematically, your mix hasn’t met it’s full potential.

- How to Mix: The 5 Phases Of Every Good Mix - Recording Revolution - […] I like to think of this as a radio test. […]
Power of the mute button. I too have made moments happen that were not in the recording just from muting even a single drum hit. I’d even consider this as producer type advice when finishing a song. Those albeit slight changes add the perfect tension and release for the changing sections. Sounds great Graham, I can’t wait to hear the final stuff when you release.
Chris
Thanks Chris! Just a few more days!
Music is like storytelling, you have to let it unfurl itself layer by layer..plot point by plot point..note by note, or else it’s dead.
Nice one Graham, another great tutorial. I totally agree that arrangements play a big role for the listener to stay engaged.
Many Thnx
I looooooove this. This is the kind of stuff that made me want to get into producing/mixing. This is so cool, and really glad to get a refresher on it.
I will watch this video before I finish every mix I do. Yes.
This is awesome!!!! I already know the sweetening process, but man, this is one of the best tips you can give us(with high-pass filter and cutting around 500Hz). Since I see your videos about it, I’m always analyzing my favorite songs and it helps a lot my songwriting and I’ll bring that to my future client!
I want a autographed copy of your EP 🙂 I’m a fan!
Hey graham great video! Just finished my EP and want you to give me a review on the sound of it.

Hey Graham, Im from Nova Scotia Canada and I am a Follower of Jesus Christ as well as a songwriter / producer. Ive been following Jesus for 10 years and writing songs but have only been recording my own stuff for the past 4 months… I’ve been following you and your awesome, you have helped me tremendously with my recording/ mixing techniques and I’m at the final stage… I have my stuff mostly balanced and mixed and I need to master and increase volume wile maintaining good quality… I’ve watched lots of other stuff but I cant quite find the sweet spot that my mix offers without the volume… Im using a pc with SONAR X3…. check out my songs on reverbnation and tell me what you think…. Your a great teacher…Thanks for doing this, I know your doing the world a favor bro.
