Today I want to talk about bass guitar. It’s such a crucial element to any good mix (that features a bass guitar of course) so bass deserves a little bit of attention in the mixing phase. Specifically in the area of compression. Let’s look at how and why to use compression on your bass.

Consistency Is Key

When I use a compressor on bass guitar I’m looking to do two things: add fatness to the sound and to create some consistency in the plucks and picks of the string. A compressor can do both of those things very well. Let’s take 5 minutes to check it out!
