From Blank Slate To The Hook (One Song One Month Challenge 1/8)

2016 Jan 04, 2016

Are you ready to write, record, mix, and release a song in the next 30 days? Let’s begin!

Today we are going to open up our DAW and get the most important element of any song in there – the hook.

No matter what genre or style of music you create, no song is worth sharing if it doesn’t have a memorable hook. That is why we, as part of the writing/creating process, are going to start by capturing the hook or the core of your song.

This Doesn’t Have To Be Perfect

I know some of you will have a few questions after today’s video:

Why didn’t you spend anytime auditioning drum sounds? What about the guitar, is that your final tone? What if that’s not where the hook is supposed to go in the song?

The goal of today’s video is simply to get your idea down and make sure it’s a good one. Don’t think of capturing the hook as recording, instead think of it more as songwriting. We want to make sure we have something worth recording and sharing.

In the next few videos we will build out the full arrangement of the song as well as start recording the actual parts. Patience young padawan. Patience.
